Hot Cross Buns recipeHot Cross Buns ingredients list:4 cups of white flour.
¾ cup of currants.
¾ cup of warm water.
½ cup of cooking oil.
¼ cup of white sugar.
2 tablespoons of dry yeast.
2 tablespoons of white vinegar.
1 teaspoon of salt.
1 teaspoon of baking powder.
1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
More flour, for kneading. Instructions for Hot Cross Buns:In a mixing bowl, combine the yeast with warm water.
Combine all of the other ingredients except the flour, the cooking oil and the currants.
Add half (2 cups) of the flour and mix.
Next, stir in the ¾ cup of currants, followed by mixing in the remaining half of the flour.
Remove the mixture from the bowl and knead it until the dough can be bent without breaking.
Put the mixture back in the bowl; then cover with a damp cloth and set aside until it has doubled.
Punch the dough down, then turn out onto a floured board. Cover and allow to rest for about 15 minutes.
Divide the dough into about 20 portions.
Roll each portion into a ball shape; then place on a greased baking sheet at least 2 inches apart.
Flatten each portion slightly; then cut a cross shape on the top.
Cover again with a damp cloth and allow to rise until it has doubled.
Turn your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Brush the top of each portion with some cooking oil, then bake for about 15 minutes.
